You could qualify for the Motability Scheme if you receive any of the following benefits:
There's no upper age limit for the scheme, providing you receive one of the allowances listed above, but it is important to note that at the time you apply, you must have at least 12 months of benefits remaining. The Attendance Allowance is not a qualifying benefit. The Government has begun replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for all disabled people aged between 16 and 64.
If you are awarded the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP, you will continue to be able to lease a car through the Motability Scheme, as you did previously.
But don't worry if you have at least 12 months of your current allowance remaining, then you still be able to choose your new vehicle during the PIP rollout.
If you have any concerns about the PIP rollout please do not hesitate to contact one of our Mobability Advisors, who will happily talk you through the ordering process.
If you opt for the Mobility scheme you do not need to drive. You can nominate friends and family members as drivers if you're not able to drive the car yourself. Up to two drivers can be nominated for free, with an extra cost for a third person. All of the people you nominate should live within five miles of your address, and have to agree to Motability's terms and conditions.
The eligibility of your nominated drivers will depend on their ages, any criminal record they might have, and the insurance group of the Motability car you choose. Only one driver under the age of 21 is allowed, and drivers up to the age of 25 can only drive models with 115bhp or less in insurance brackets 1-16. Speak to one of our Motability Specialists for more information.
If you have a child aged three years or older who is claiming DLA, you can also apply for a car on their behalf as their parent or guardian. You'll then be their nominated driver for the vehicle.
We have specialist Motability Advisors, fully trained and available to discuss all of your requirements. If you have any questions please contact us at Cawdor Ford in Cardigan now.
